Holy Communion (Sunday 8.00 am)
This is said communion from the book of common prayer
Sung Eucharist (Sunday 11.15 am)
Our sung eucharist is from common worship and has input from both the clergy
and the congregation. We usually sing five hymns, the processional, the
collection, two during the giving of communion and a recessional. We also have
a sung Psalm and certain parts of the service are also sung. All is from an
easy to follow service booklet complete with music sheets and of course the
hymn book. The service booklet is available in large print.
Family Service 11.15 am (usually fourth Sunday of the month)
Family service is a lovely service with young people in mind and is largely run
by the St. John's primary school children (with a little help from the adults).
It usually follows a theme and often has the youngsters processing around the
church carrying banners (the younger members of the congregation with mother's
in tow). It's all good fun and well worth trying for yourself.
Sung Matins 11.15 am (Fifth Sunday of the month)
By virtue of the fact that this is only on a fifth Sunday of the month, it is
not a monthly service but is does attract a goodly following with members of
the congregation now travelling from other Parishes to take part.
We are extremely lucky that our clergy realise that certain members of the
choir have far better singing voices than themselves and therefore are willing
to give over their 'singing' parts to those endowed with better voices.
Perhaps this is why it is becoming a popular service.
Compline every 2nd, 4th and if possible 5th Tuesday of the month at 8.00 pm
This service from the book of common worship is held in a parishioners home,
usually at 1, Church Fields, Keele, and whilst not solely, it is usually
conducted by the vicar. It is a most informal service with a general chat
before hand on a given subject from the gospel, where everybody can have their
say. On occasions the service is conducted by the host or another nominated
person.
Holy Communion (Thursday 7.30pm)
Our sister Church of St. Lukes, in Silverdale has a simple half hour service of
Holy Communion on a Thursday evening, this is completely said with no hymns
and is an ideal service for those who cannot make it to church on Sunday's.
And then of course
There is the St John's Fellowship which is a follow on from the Alpha courses
run at St. John's and is held on the second Wednesday evening of the month at a
member's house. The evening starts with a meal and is followed by bible study
and discussions in a very relaxed atmosphere. Please contact us for the dates
and venues.
We believe that all services should be for the congregation, so please come and
join us!
